Three blondes are sitting by the side of a river

Three blondes were sitting by a river, holding fishing poles with their lines in the water, enjoying what seemed like a quiet afternoon outdoors. Suddenly, a game warden approached and asked to see their fishing licenses. When the women admitted they did not have any, the situation appeared to become a little complicated. But instead of admitting they were fishing, one of them calmly explained that they were not catching fish at all. According to her, they had magnets attached to the ends of their lines and were simply collecting metal debris from the bottom of the river.

The game warden looked closely at their equipment and, surprisingly, found horseshoe magnets attached to the lines. With no obvious rule against collecting debris in that way, he accepted their explanation and told them they could take all the debris they wanted. Satisfied that everything was fine, he walked away and continued on his way. The three women waited until he was out of sight before bursting into laughter. Their unusual explanation had apparently worked, and they were delighted that the game warden had accepted it without asking too many questions.

Then came the punchline. One of the women jokingly called him a “dumb Fish Cop” and pointed out something he had apparently overlooked: the river was home to steelhead trout. The humor comes from the absurd idea that their magnets could somehow be used to collect fish, even though magnets attract metal rather than living trout. Their explanation had been clever enough to satisfy the game warden, but the final remark made the entire situation even more ridiculous.

It is the kind of simple joke that works because of its unexpected twist. What begins as an ordinary fishing scene turns into a playful story about quick thinking, misunderstanding, and a punchline that arrives only after the authority figure has left. The women never actually need to explain what they were doing, because the humor comes from the absurdity of their excuse and their confidence in it. Sometimes, a silly little story with an unexpected ending is all it takes to brighten the day.
