An 80-year-old lady stepped up to the bar on a cruise ship and ordered a Scotch with exactly two drops of water. The bartender smiled, served her the drink, and learned that it was her birthday. He kindly told her the drink was on the house. Soon, a woman sitting nearby bought her another drink, followed by a man who did the same. Each time, the birthday lady politely asked for the same thing: a Scotch with two drops of water. Finally, the bartender couldn’t resist asking why she wanted so little water. The old lady giggled and said, “Sonny, when you’re my age, you’ve learned how to hold your liquor. Water, however, is a whole other issue.” 😂
And that reminded me of another clever old lady who walked into a bank to withdraw $500. The teller impatiently told her that withdrawals under $5,000 should be made at the ATM. Without arguing, the woman calmly asked to withdraw everything in her account. The teller checked the balance—and discovered she had $3.5 million! Suddenly, the attitude changed completely. The teller respectfully explained that the bank couldn’t provide that much cash immediately and asked how much she wanted to withdraw. The lady requested $300,000, took out $500, and then calmly asked the teller to deposit the remaining $299,500 back into her account. 😄
Sometimes, age teaches lessons that money, rules, and impatience never can. These women didn’t need to raise their voices or prove anything. They simply knew what they were doing—and they knew how to keep their sense of humor along the way. There’s something wonderfully refreshing about that kind of confidence.
So, the next time you meet an older person, remember that behind those years may be decades of experience, wisdom, patience, and a few surprises you definitely won’t see coming. Never underestimate someone simply because they’re older. They may have been learning the game long before you arrived. ❤️
