I was eight and a half months pregnant when my husband secretly gave away nearly $1,400 worth of my maternity clothes to his pregnant sister while I was working a nursing shift. When I came home exhausted, with swollen feet and barely anything left that fit me, I discovered that most of my wardrobe had disappeared. My comfortable dresses, maternity scrubs, nursing pajamas, and even the beautiful sage-green dress I had bought for my pregnancy photographs were gone. When I confronted my husband, Nick, he barely looked up from making his lunch. “You’re nearly finished being pregnant,” he said casually. “My sister needs those things more than you do.” I reminded him that I still had weeks until my due date and would need comfortable clothes long after our daughter was born. But he simply shrugged and told me to figure something out. I had spent months carefully buying those clothes, saving receipts, and preparing for maternity leave. My stomach dropped when I saw my navy maternity dress, my cardigan, my nursing pajamas, and the sage-green dress I had never even worn. The green dress still had its original tags and was listed for $85. Beneath the listing was one devastating word: SOLD. When I showed Nick, he barely glanced at my phone before turning up the television. “Why are you making everything about yourself?” he asked. I realized that arguing with him would get me nowhere, so I called his mother, Elaine, and explained everything through tears. She listened quietly before asking, “Anna, did you give either of them permission?” When I said no, she promised to help me recover my belongings. That evening, Tara sent another message claiming Nick had told her I knew about everything. I forwarded it to Elaine, and the following morning, she went straight to Tara’s apartment. What she discovered there would expose a secret far more damaging than the clothes themselves…CONTINUE READING
