The Friday I Feared Most

For seven years, Emily had worked for Richard Bennett, a respected businessman who had given her a chance when she was only twenty-four and had very little professional experience. She still remembered how nervous she had been during her first interview, unsure whether someone like Richard would take her seriously. Instead, after listening to her honest answer about why she deserved an opportunity, he simply told her to report to work the following Monday. Over the years, Emily grew into her role and eventually became Richard’s personal assistant. She knew his schedule, his clients, his routines, and the small details that helped keep the company running smoothly. At four o’clock, Richard appeared downstairs and asked her to come with him. Instead of going to another office or meeting a client, they walked to a quiet park near the company. They stopped at a bench beneath a large tree. Richard sat down, while Emily remained standing for a moment, trying to understand what was happening. Finally, she sat beside him. Richard looked at her calmly and began speaking about the seven years she had spent with the company. Emily listened carefully, convinced that difficult news was coming… CONTINUE READING
