On the day I graduated, I made a mistake that would stay with me for years. Surrounded by applause and proud of everything I had accomplished, I looked at my sister and spoke as though my success had been achieved entirely on my own. I failed to see the sacrifices she had made behind the scenes. She didn\u2019t argue or defend herself. She simply smiled sadly and walked away. At the time, I thought the silence meant nothing. Later, I would realize it meant everything.<\/p>\n
Months passed, and I became consumed by work and the life I had worked so hard to build. I told myself my sister simply needed space, but deep down I knew I had created the distance between us. When I finally returned home, something immediately felt wrong. The house was unusually quiet, and there were small signs that she had left without saying where she was going. Then I found a note waiting on the table. Her words revealed that she had spent years putting her own dreams aside so I could have opportunities she never had.<\/p>\n
Reading her letter forced me to see my past differently. The meals, the bills, the encouragement, the opportunities I had taken for granted\u2014all of them had come at a cost.
