On Christmas Eve, wealthy businessman Nathaniel Whitmore sat alone in a small Pennsylvania diner when he noticed a young mother counting the coins in her hand. Beside her sat a little girl named Sophie, watching the Christmas lights with excitement. When the waitress approached, the mother quietly ordered a children’s pancake plate and a glass of water. “What about you, Mommy?” Sophie asked when the food arrived.
