Five years ago, Elias looked at his wife as though she were the most beautiful woman in the world. He brought her flowers for no reason, kissed her while she cooked, and made her feel cherished in ways she would never forget. But after two children, countless sleepless nights, and the exhausting demands of motherhood, their marriage began to change. While Elias enjoyed eight hours of sleep, regular gym sessions, and carefree weekends playing video games, his wife struggled to balance working from home with raising their three-year-old and eighteen-month-old children. She barely had time to shower, let alone take care of herself. Instead of offering support, Elias began criticizing her appearance. He complained that she looked tired and reminded her that she used to dress up for him. Then, three weeks before their fifth wedding anniversary, she overheard a conversation that broke her heart. While drinking beers with his friend Vance on the patio, Elias laughed about their upcoming anniversary and said he would probably order pizza. Then he delivered a remark his wife would never forget: “Honestly, man, if I met her today, I wouldn’t even ask her out. She’s aged so much in just five years.” Standing inside the kitchen, holding a bottle brush, she felt something inside her change. She had sacrificed sleep, personal time, and countless little pleasures to care for their family, yet the man who once adored her now treated her efforts as though they meant nothing. That night, while Elias slept peacefully beside her, she lay awake and made a decision. If he believed he was so clever, perhaps it was time to show him how little he truly understood about the woman he had married.

Three weeks later, Elias walked into the kitchen on their anniversary, smiling as he suggested ordering pizza for dinner. His wife calmly handed him a beautifully wrapped package. Inside was a note explaining that she had hidden the flash drive containing his quarterly presentation. For months, Elias had been pursuing a promotion to department director, and his crucial meeting was scheduled for Friday. To get the flash drive back, she had prepared a list of conditions: a spa day, seven nights of putting the children to bed, cooking dinner for an entire week, and two evenings when she could enjoy uninterrupted personal time. Elias was furious, accusing her of blackmail and insisting that he worked hard enough to deserve his free time. She quietly reminded him that she worked hard, too, only without the luxury of switching off when the day ended. Reluctantly, he agreed to book her spa appointment, but his cooperation lasted only until he discovered the flash drive hidden in her bathrobe pocket. Convinced he had outsmarted her, he announced that their agreement was over and told her to return to her place in the kitchen. She lowered her eyes and accepted his victory without an argument. What Elias didn’t realize was that finding the flash drive was exactly what she had planned. He had never checked the presentation prepared by his freelance designer, trusting that everything was perfect. While he celebrated his clever discovery, his wife had already arranged something that would make his important Friday meeting unforgettable. And when he finally stood before his boss and the executive team, he would discover that the biggest mistake of his career had been hiding in plain sight…CONTINUE READING

Five years ago, Elias looked at his wife as though she were the most beautiful woman in the world.
